New KCP&L Business Rebates established under the Missouri Energy Efficiency Investment Act (MEEIA)

Beginning July 6, Kansas City Power and Light (KCP&L) will offer expanded energy-efficiency programs under the Missouri Energy Efficiency Investment Act (MEEIA) for its Legacy KCP&L MO customers. Former Aquila/GMO customers will not be impacted by this program.

The biggest change to the existing program is that the cap for business customers will be increased to $250,000 per customer, per calendar year, regardless of the size of the customer or their rate code. The measures will be more standard and prescriptive, which will closely mirror the criteria for the former Aquila/GMO program.

Lighting Baseline Update
Under the Business Energy Efficiency Rebates program, the lighting rebates are also going to have some changes. Starting on January 1, 2015, the new baseline will be T8, rather than the current T12.

KCP&L will continue to pay for T12 retrofit projects, but the baseline for calculating the rebates will be T8 specs instead of T12. There will also no longer be rebates paid for standard T8 lighting in new or retrofit projects.

The 2015 T8 baseline will lower the savings KCP&L can use in custom project analysis by approximately 20-50%, depending on the type of T12 fixture that is being replaced. Because of the reduction in savings, payback periods will be longer, which may affect if the project passes the benefit/cost analysis. Project cost margins will be more sensitive as a part of the analysis, because of the reduction to the T8 baseline.
